Family-Owned Since Day One in Reading, PA. In 2003, Marco and Maria Penaloza walked into Nino’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant as employees, never imagining they’d one day call it their own. They learned every recipe, got to know every regular by name, and fell in love with the place one shift at a time. So, when the previous owner offered them the chance to take over in 2021, it felt less like a business decision and more like a dream finally catching up to them.
“This was our dream, to be able to own the place we love to work at,” Maria says, and that gratitude still shows in every corner of the restaurant, from the familiar faces still working the kitchen to the recipes that haven’t changed because they don’t need to.
Step inside and you’ll feel it: Nino’s has held onto the charm and history of the owners who came before, creating a Reading, PA staple where quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality come standard with every dish. The menu tells its own story, one rooted in authentic Italian cooking. The Chicken Parmigiana, Chicken Marsala, and Seafood Fra Diavolo have become customer favorites over the years, alongside the homemade bread and cheesesteaks that keep people coming back.
That same sense of closeness reaches beyond the dining room. Nino’s partners with local homeless shelters, sponsors local school sports including Reading and Muhlenberg, donates food to local churches, and offers discounts to first responders and veterans.Marco and Maria say their proudest moment hasn’t been a single dish or milestone, it’s been watching families gather over their food and feeling the appreciation from the customers they serve. “It makes all our sacrifices over these past two decades worth it,” Maria shares.
